Audio-Technica AT-LP60 USB Turntable Review

Buying top of the range sounding turntable record players can be expensive.
Before even looking at the price range you first need to decide what’s the sole purpose you want the turntable; will it be just home listening or to digitalise your records.
Once this has been constituted you can better understand the pros and cons of different record players.
But many customers are looking for a low-cost turntable that manages to cover many different areas.
This leads me to the Audio Technica AT-LP60: I believe this to be the best turntable for under $150 on the market and would highly propose it for an entry level turntable. We will take an in-depth look at the LP60 in this review.

The Audio Technica AT-LP60 turntable record player USB is a fully automatic belt driven turntable which has a USB port. The company has sold the products as a music transferring device which let you rip old vinyl records and have them an MP3 format for iPods and computers.

The Audio-Technica company make and design high-quality products but don’t be misled by the fact that they are marketing the device as a transferring device, it isn’t the actual turntable that records the music, it is, in fact, the music software Audacity (most entry level turntables use this) and your computer.

Audacity can be tough to get your head around the first time you start using it. But as with anything a little practice and time spent will go a long way. There is no obligation to use the Audacity software, there is numerous other different recording software’s around that can be ingrained with this turntable.
It's important to remember that any record player can be used to bring your music to a digital format even without a USB port, all you need is the right connection.

The LP60 should be seen as an easy to use affordable record player then has the added benefit of being able to transfer music to your computer.

Sound Quality of the At-LP60

You have to remember when judging the sound ideality on this player that its an entry level player and that it won’t be as good as the more expensive players. But that being said this player has superior sound quality. It makes a very clear and warm sound.

And because of the magnetic cartridge, you’ll find that the sound is much better than the one produced by cheap turntables with ceramic cartridges. Of course, it also counts on the quality of the rest of your audio equipment. When judging the sound quality of a turntable it is very important to keep in mind that the ideality of the sound coming out of the speakers is the result of a very complicated process that involves all the audio components.

If you can attach a good set of speakers to this unit then you will be very pleased with the sound quality you hear.

Body and Look

There is two variant of this turntable, one has the USB port and the other one without. They are exactly the same, the only difference is the USB connection and their price. The AT-LP60 costs less than the AT-LP60-USB. This product comes in four varied colors: black, blue, red and silver.
Only the silver one is available with the USB port.

The unit is mainly made of plastic, only platter which is made of aluminum. It has a nice simple clean design and looks very elegant. It has a flimsy feel when carried. It comes with a removable clear dust cover. I have read complains that the dust cover gets scratched easily.I have confirmed this fact, but that is what the cover is for, to protect your records and your player.

Conclusion

The Audio Technica AT-LP60-USB is a good entry level turntable with a nice sound quality at a very affordable price. This turntable beats its similar price competitors. This fully automatic turntable is very simple to use and easy to assemble. The best option for the average listener.
